NHK Spring Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Yokohama, Japan; President & COO: Kazuhisa Uemura) announces that it has decided to invest in the green bonds issued by Kanagawa Prefecture this year, as it has done for the previous two years running.
Approximately 4,700 people, or about 50% of our employees in Japan, work at 26 of our group's domestic locations in Kanagawa Prefecture. Through this investment, we will be deeply involved in measures such as improving the natural environment and flood disaster prevention in the Prefecture, an important base for our company. We believe that contributing to the sustainability of Kanagawa Prefecture will, in turn, result in greater synergy regarding our contributions to local communities through our core business.
Based on our investment in these bonds, we will continue to strive to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through our business activities.

In February 2020, Kanagawa Prefecture formulated its Kanagawa Prefecture Water Disaster Prevention Strategy as a measure against water disasters such as heavy rains and typhoons caused by climate change. In September of the same year, to promote the strategy, it established a Green Bond Framework. In March 2023, in consideration of the environment-related changes since the strategy's formulation (such as intensifying climate-related disasters, the Embankment Regulation Law, COVID-19, and advancements in disaster response through digitization), Kanagawa Prefecture revised its Water Disaster Prevention Strategy to further strengthen its measures. Along with this revision, the framework was also updated, and the eligibility for project funding has been expanded. The funds raised through the issuance of these bonds are scheduled to be allocated to the following projects related to the Kanagawa Prefecture Water Disaster Prevention Strategy.
